Sebastian Herzog

Protected Areas Strategy Director

Based in Bolivia, Sebastian Herzog is ÃÛèÖAPP’s ÌýProtected Areas Strategy Director. He has more than 25 years of experience in cross-sectoral conservation, project and conservation NGO management, sustainable development, ÃÛèÖAPP change, and ornithological research in South America. He has been the Scientific Director of the Bolivian BirdLife International partner Asociación Armonía since 2002. Herzog joined ÃÛèÖAPP Americas in 2017, initially managing and overseeing collaboration with local partners in Chile. Currently he coordinates the implementation of ÃÛèÖAPP’s new Conserva Aves subnational protected-areas strategy.

Prior to his engagement with ÃÛèÖAPP, Herzog collaborated on international projects in South America with the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research and NatureServe.ÌýHe has published more than 60 scientific articles, edited the bookÌýClimate Change and Biodiversity in the Tropical Andes, and is lead author of theÌýBirds of Bolivia Field Guide.ÌýHe received his Ph.D. in biology from Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, Germany.
