Osprey by Soten

Location: 3663 Broadway, New York, NY 10031

Painted: May 9, 2016

Sponsored by:ÌýBonnie Kime Scott

About the Bird:ÌýPesticides nearly pushed this bird of prey to extinction in the 1970s, but the Osprey has made a strong comeback and can now frequently be seen nesting on platforms near lakes and rivers. As temperatures rise it should continue to do well, even expanding its range in the Southeastern United States and Canada, although areas along the East Coast and Great Lakes will become less hospitable. ÌýIncreased spring heat waves and human development could also hamper its survival.

About the Artist:Ìý is a visual artist and graffiti writer from Copenhagen, Denmark, who in the past 15 years has grown from a young, local writer to an established international artist.ÌýHis works are known forÌýtrademark letterforms, funky color combinations, and the use of classic illustration elements. It was that drew him to paint an Osprey: “I thought itÌýwas pretty cool.â€
