Hugh Simmons Named to National APP Board

Hugh Simmons, regional director for APP’s Mid-Atlantic Region and Senior Administrator of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, has been named to the Board of Directors of the APP.

Simmons serves as Vice President of the Chesapeake APP Society, Chapter Relations Committee Chair of the APP Maryland-DC State Board and as board member of the Pickering Creek APP Center. He is the former President and Treasurer of the Chesapeake APP Society and former chapter representative and Secretary of the APP Maryland-DC State Board. 

“Hugh’s passion for conservation and his deep understanding of the vital role of chapters and the APP network in our work make him a terrific addition to our board,” said , President and CEO of the APP. “I look forward to his guidance and perspective as we implement our bold new strategic plan.”

Simmons  joins other recent additions to the APP board: David Roux, co-founder and Chairman of Silver Lake; Hector E. Morales, who served as the US Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States;  Doug Varley, member of the law firm Caplin & Drysdale; Joe Ellis, 35-year Wall Street veteran, conservationist and author; Jon Anda, founder and leader of UBS Securities Environmental Markets Group; leading APP scientist Terry Root, Ph.D; and two regional directors: Pennsylvania education expert Leigh Altadonna and Joy Hester, Houston conservation leader and retired real estate attorney. In addition, renowned ornithologist Frank Gill, Ph. D returned to APP’s board last year following a stint as interim CEO.
