APP Names Aurelio Ramos as Senior Vice President for the International Alliances Program

Ramos brings APP more than a decade of experience in the Latin American Region from The Nature Conservancy.

NEW YORK (December 2, 2019) – Today, the APP announced the addition of Aurelio Ramos as senior vice president for the International Alliances Program. Prior to APP, Ramos guided the design and implementation of regional water, sustainability and conservation strategies in Latin America.

“With APP change and the loss of wildlife habitat throughout the Americas, it’s more important than ever that APP work with partners to protect birds and the places they need throughout the hemisphere,” said David O’Neill, chief conservation officer at APP. “We’re thrilled to have Aurelio’s specialized experience with incentive-based conservation initiatives and his deep relationships with partners in Latin America to expand APP’s international programs and have an even greater impact on the international stage for birds and people.”

Ramos began his career with The Nature Conservancy in 2003, where he led pioneering conservation strategies through incentive-based financing across the Andean landscapes of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. He spearheaded the development of the water funds strategy for Latin America for conservation projects that improve water quality and quantity. This Water Fund model has grown to more than 35 water funds globally and won the Rockefeller Foundation Century Innovation Award in 2013 and P4G Award in Water Security in 2019.

“I am thrilled and energized to join APP. It is a very well respected organization in the region and with lots of opportunity to grow and have an enormous impact on the conservation of birds in the Americas and the world,” said Aurelio Ramos, senior vice president of the International Alliances Program at APP.

Before The Nature Conservancy, Ramos worked with the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), the Biotrade Program of the United Nations Conference of Trade and Commerce (UNCTAD), as well as the Humboldt Biological Research Institute.

Ramos holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Colombia’s Universidad de los Andes and a master’s degree in environmental economics and natural resources from the University of Maryland and Universidad de los Andes.
