APP CEO: Cathy McMorris Rodgers can draw from the American West’s legacy of conservation

Our public lands, wildlife and APP progress depend on a strong and steady Interior Department.

WASHINGTON—Today, President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is expected to announce Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) as his choice for Secretary of the Interior. The APP issued the following response:

“Cathy McMorris Rodgers has a huge opportunity to use the power of Interior to protect wildlife, defend public lands, and address APP change—all of which matter to our birds and our kids,” said David Yarnold (), the CEO and President of the APP. “Americans from every corner of the country and all across the political spectrum strongly support protecting our natural heritage because conservation doesn’t have a party.

“America has a proud history of Secretaries of the Interior who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to science-based conservation and strong enforcement of our bedrock environmental laws.”

The APP saves birds and their habitats throughout the Americas using science, advocacy, education, and on-the-ground conservation. APP’s state programs, nature centers, chapters, and partners have an unparalleled wingspan that reaches millions of people each year to inform, inspire and unite diverse communities in conservation action. Since 1905, APP’s vision has been a world in which people and wildlife thrive. APP is a nonprofit conservation organization. Learn more at  and follow @audubonsociety.
